In the heart of Swedish Lapland, Jukkasjarvi locates Icehotel. They built it from the frozen water of the Torne River. Furthermore, it is one of the world’s best known sub-zero palaces. The world-famous hotel is created every year from ice and snow. Also it offers a truly unique place for the ultimate winter break.
In other words, a glittering, shimmering hotel emerges, artists sculpted it out of the ice itself. It is in pristine wilderness in Swedish Lapland around 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. The Icehotel is a magnificent location for a weekend break.
In 1989, Par Granlund and Yngve Bergqvist had a vision to build an igloo, in the Inuit style but bigger than ever created before. The first igloo was a simple art gallery. It had just 50 square meters of floor space, only locals visited it. The Igloo started to grow in size annually, each year with a new design. The little town of Jukkasjarvi became a center for trade and commerce. Nowadays, Icehotel attracts ice artists and visitors from all around the globe.
Inside The Hotel
Icehotel is all about ice and creativity. The igloo measures 250 m² in size. The rooms are constructed in a classic arch shape, which is self-supporting and incredibly strong. There are around fifty cold rooms and around seventy warm rooms. The temperature inside the hotel hovers at a constant of -5 to -7 C. you can sleep in expedition-style sleeping bags which are tested for extreme temperatures. Or, you can sleep in beds in the cold rooms that have a bed frame made of ice, slatted bed base with mattress, reindeer skins and one down pillow per person. Moreover, there are luxury suites too that have private bathrooms.
In the hotel you can find an ice bar and a restaurant in the main hall. Also there is a church. In winter you can try Dog sledding, skiing or snowmobiling. While in summer there are activities as river rafting and cycling. Moreover, Fishing, midnight sun and northern lights safaris are amazing ways to experience the place.
