Tanning Bed – Smart Tanning
How Much Can a Tanning Bed Give You
Advice by Carmen.
Many when visiting my SPA ask me the same question when it comes to the tanning bed, “Does it really give the same result as tanning outside in the sun?” Here is my clear answer. When your skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays or UV, your skin produces a tan the same as when you lay under natural sun rays. But there is this simple yet important difference. You can not control the amount of outdoor UV rays whereas you can literally control how much UV you want to be exposed to when you are inside a tanning bad. You can adjust it, gradually increase or decrease depending on end results you are looking for. This alone can minimize the risk of you getting sunburned.
Eventually, you all become tanners, professionals, after using the machine very often. But allow me to give you this little extra information.
First you really need to determine your skin type. I stress on this point as it will help you calculate the best timing for you skin color. You have skin types that range from 1 to 6. 1 is the lightest and 6 is the darkest which is of course least likely to burn. Most of us actually fall in the skin type 3, which means we should begin by tanning 6-8 minutes/ session in a level 1 or 2 bed. To go for higher levels you need to have had several sessions first, like for example 3 visits. If you are between 4 to 5 skin color, you could go up 1 to 2 minutes/ visit. Anything but gradually to not get your skin burnt. In general, for a nice looking tan I suggest you go for 3 visits. And to maintain it go 2 times a week eventually.
The process is very basic. Shower and exfoliate using a harsh soap or scrubbing sponge, until you make sure that your skin is clean of dead cells. This will help your tan to last longer. Always choose a high quality tanning lotion. There are specific ones that are actually designed for tanning beds. Those can increase your tan from 40 to 70 percent and keeps you skin feeling softer and smoother. Expensive but worth it.
Now if, by chance, you tend to burn your skin, wait till the burn is completely gone before tanning again. And wait at least 48 hours in between tanning sessions. You can always find those tan extenders that you apply after tanning. They are lotions that keep your tan last longer and they have bronzers in them to give you this extra color.
I always make sure to keep goggles for you there, Make sure to wear them to protect your eyes. We don’t want the rays to permanently damage them.
